Gennadly Gavrylov, Ukrainian Captain of
controversial vessel Avant Garde, used as an armoury protesting opposite UN
office in Colombo yesterday demanding that his case be expedited.
Captain Gavrylov was taken into custody four
years ago for alleged charge of being in charge of a vessel carrying
unauthorized weapons. At that time he was the captain of the tug AVANT
GARDE owned and operated by Sri Lanka Shipping Company.
appeals to UNO that he be permitted to leave Sri Lanka after 4 yrs in prison
The Ukranian handed over a letter to
the United Nations Office in Colombo appealing for their intervention that
he be permitted to leave Sri Lanka after being in prison for four years.
He carried a placard as well outside the UN
office before handing over his letter. Representatives from the Ukraine Embassy
Office in New Delhi are expected to attend the next court hearing in his case
scheduled on June fourteenth. The embassy officials are expected to plead his
case for being let off
